Eco Club is  great opportunity for students to develop an interest in all things green. Activities such as increasing biodiversity by making habitats, growing seasonal vegetables to take home and craft recycling is all part of being an Eco club member.

Nicola Crowhurst – Shoreham Beach School

 ”We went outside to look around the Garden. Mr Hunton filled us in with some of his ideas for later club meetings, these were:

* Planting garlic and leeks over winter in the raised beds.

* Making recycled bird feeders.

* Designing and making the Eco Club notice board.

* Moving the bug hotel and making it habitable for lots of insects and bugs.

    “It’s been fantastic to have a professional work with the children. They have enjoyed the club so much and the parents talk about how keen and enthusiastic their children are when they get home. It is really exciting to have the Eco Schools awards to work towards as well, this teaches the children the importance of issue such as: energy water, biodiversity and seasonal food. I recommend it whole-heartedly!”

    The children at Shoreham Beach Primary have loved coming to Eco Club, which has been run by Phil. We are so glad that we are getting the most of our outside wild life area and growing seasonal food. The trip to the Earthship was brilliant and Phil’s knowledge of sustainable materials and processes was enlightening. All this work has helped us achieve our Silver award and we are working towards the Green flag.

    Thanks to Green up your Acts help we managed to achieve our Silver Eco Award.

    With Phil Hunton practical help and by sharing his experience and resources, the children worked together to establish a Mini Beast Mansion in one corner of the playground and a wormery to turn our organic waste into a rich compost. Phil has fueled the group with practical and straightforward ideas advising us how to make the most of the projects. He is now helping us to work towards our Green Flag. It’s has been really refreshing to have such experienced, practical and reliable help with our school work, with Phil as our adviser and friend to keep us going for our goals. We have really enjoyed our work and are looking forward to future projects to keep us on course for the Green Flag.

    “It’s been a real pleasure seeing my child leaning about nature. Growing food and working with the seasons is a great opportunity that is sometimes missed living in the city”.

    Rose enjoys Eco Club very much. Its has been a real pleasure seeing the enthusiasm seen by children being out side in the fresh air and working as a team in tending the garden. She loves being outdoors and especially likes watering and eating the raspberries. She also enjoys planting and seeing things grow. She was very pleased with her beans.
